Headwaters is UNC Asheville’s Literary and Creative Arts Magazine. All UNCA students are invited to submit original creative work to the magazine, and be part of the Headwaters staff.
The Internship in Publishing with Headwaters is a one-credit course offered during the spring semester that focuses on the creation, publication and distribution of Headwaters. Students will learn all aspects of the publishing process including editorial selection, production work including design, distribution and promotion. This course will prepare students for future opportunities in publishing, editorial, and advertising careers.

Clubs & Organizations
The Literature Club welcomes all students interested in the study of literature and language. The club meets to exchange ideas, sponsor visiting writers and literary scholars, and arrange student-faculty parties to advance the camaraderie of the department. Faculty mentors: Anne Jansen, Evan Gurney, and Cynn Chadwick.
Sigma Tau Delta
As a part of Sigma Tau Delta, the National Literature Honor Society, UNC Asheville's Eta Omicron chapter is a recently established Student Organization as of the Fall of 2012. In this short time as an organization, Sigma Tau Delta has organized a book drive for third world countries, created a t-shirt contest to advertise the club, while also raising funds to continue the event annually. One of the major projects taken on by the members of Sigma Tau Delta, has been re-vamping the literature student lounge, transforming the space into a more cozy and study-friendly atmosphere. Geared towards all literature students, this project has intended to also function as the mecca of learning for those preparing to take the comprehensive exam. Field trips to local authors' homes and end of the semester pizza celebrations at the Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company are also things that members of Sigma Tau Delta will enjoy. Providing students with leadership opportunities through both the UNCA chapter, as well as nationally, Sigma Tau Delta is more than just a resume booster, it is a community of literature students wanting to make a difference in their department. Sigma Tau Delta also invites speakers to campus; in October 2013 the organization hosted author Joseph Bates and will host Kelcey Parker in March, 2014. We have a student organization page and a Facebook page.
The Feminist Collective
The Feminist Collective is an organization on campus that functions as a safe space for all feminist identified people to interact and share ideas. We provide feminist programming for UNCA’s campus and collaborate with many other student organizations to create change. We are committed to promoting community service and the exchange of ideas in order to progress change locally and globally. We acknowledge and celebrate the many different feminist identities that exist within our group and encourage others to open their mind to the many feminisms that exist around the world. Faculty Mentor: Amanda Wray. For more information, see our Facebook or Tumblr.
