Students who have taken two LIT/LANG courses and who have a 3.0 GPA or above can become members of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Membership in the international society comes with several benefits, including scholarship and publication opportunities. Since 2012, UNC Asheville’s local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, Eta Omicron, was recognized Student Organization; revamped the literature student lounge (KAR 240); visited the homes of local authors like Flannery O’Connor, Alice Walker, Thomas Wolfe, and Carl Sandburg; held end of the semester pizza celebrations at Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company; hosted visiting writers and panels with alumni and English faculty; and sent a group of presenters to Sigma Tau Delta’s national conventions in Louisville (’17) and Cincinnati (’18).
